The Garden Shed

My chickens desperately needed a new coop and the new one, without question, would have to be moved up onto higher ground (still wondering who would willingly build a shed in a known depression where water ran downhill during a thaw). Anyway, my husband and I also needed a nearby place to store our garden equipment so we decided to build a multi-purpose shed up near the garden. In the plans, the back part of the shed would be used for the chickens and the front part would be for the garden things.
But as things went, once the structure got closed in we both decided it was much too nice to house chickens in (we didn't tell the chickens that... there may have been some hurt feelings). By then, unfortunately, I already had a brand new, huge yard fenced in for them and I wasn't in the mood to take it all down and move it again. We ended up building a new chicken shed beside 'The Garden Shed'.

Here is how it began

Posts and floor frame started in mid April

One wall up in early May (a few of the coos are in the background)

Two walls are up the next day

Later that same day the third wall went up (I'm behind the gator)

Five days later- four walls and the rafters are up

Roof sheathing almost done (Sadly we had to remove the spruce tree behind the shed)

We used metal from our old garage for the roof. (Had to get a picture with the early June garden)

The tractor made good scaffolding.
In this picture my daughter was helping put in windows. Can you see her?

The new weather vane is up (and so is the garden netting that fell down during one winter's heavy snow)

The cats keep us company in here sometimes.
