Chicken Sheds

Progress of the new chicken shed

After we decided that the garden shed was too nice to put chickens in we decided to build another chicken shed. They really did need a new shed. The old one was rusty and ugly and every spring a river ran through it when the melting snow ran down the valley. In case you missed it the first time, this shed was really ugly.

We decided to put the new one up next to the garden shed. Here are some pictures of it being built.

Platform and one wall up

Two walls up

A few more rafters up

Roof on with a sitting area inside
To keep the chickens from getting underneath the shed, the bottom was enclosed.

Two walls nearly done and a room with a view

On the left is a 'people' door and also a small egg door to collect eggs without entering.
Here the inside is insulated and finished, the outside is almost done. Time to move in

Frosty windows and a Dark-eyed Junco at the feeder

Roosting chickens. The two silkies on the bottom never roost (I put them there)

The snow is finally gone. All the chickens are outside enjoying their new yard. In this picture there are no gates in the fence yet and just a temporary ramp up to the chicken door.

New paint
All the outside gates are finally on and the sheds are getting painted at last. To keep from having to walk into the chicken yard or the coop to let them out, there is a small access gate in the fence (right side of shed) to reach the chicken door.

One of these days I hope to finish putting trim around the windows and doors, and then paint all of the trim green to match our garage.
